20. Red Dawn. This one is a long shot, but it seems like it’s actually got a chance to climb in the ratings. Why? 2012 was a big hit this year in spite of being a poorly made movie. In tough times, we tend to gravitate toward movies which show us things as they might be (i.e. much worse than what we actually have now). Unlike the 1980s cult classic, this one follows a group of high school kids as they repulse a group of Chinese invaders (the original featured a Soviet/South American coalition attacking the USA) in the heartland of the USA.

19. Predators. Continuing our 1980s theme, the original version of this movie featured the now governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger and there are rumors he may have done a cameo here too. Either way, the story follows a group of humans who are taken to an alien planet for the purposes of surviving against the predators, a group of alien monsters.

18. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. The 20 most anticipated movies of 2010 list is heavy with both remakes and sequels of popular series. In this installment of the popular series, Lucy and Edmund Pevensie are back in Narnia together with cousin Eustace. They’ll be meeting up with Prince Caspian for a voyage across the sea on the The Dawn Treader, a royal ship. Of course, since this is Narnia, there are going to be plenty of dragons, dwarfs and merfolk before the movies is over.

17. Shrek Forever After. Shrek is back yet again in the fourth installment of the series. This time, he’s a house husband and he’s itching for some new adventures when he runs into none other than Rumpelstiltskin. Rumpelstiltskin tricks Shrek into signing off on a new adventure, where his world is turned upside down. Shrek and Fiona have never met and ogres are now hunted while Rumpelstiltskin is king.

16. Tron Legacy. Yet another sequel to a long ago 1980s cult classic, this time Kevin Flynn decides to investigate his father’s disappearance and is sucked into the world of video games from long ago (one wonders why it took him 28 years to start looking though). Look for improved CGI and cooler graphics which would have made any video game lover jump for joy back in the 1980s.

15. Gulliver’s Travels. This movie will go way back, to the 18th century to be exact, in order to bring you a movie adaptation of Jonathan Swift’s classic book of the same name. Improbably starring Jack Black as the eponymous character, this one is sure to thrill audiences of all ages.

14. Rapunzel. Disney is bringing the classic to life on the big screen in an effort to return to their roots. It’s been a while since we saw a Disney film based on a classic tale rather than something more modern and it will be interesting to see what direction they take in order to update this one for modern audiences.

13. The A Team. Yet another 1980s classic is added to the list of the 20 most anticipated movies of 2010. This is an update of the classic TV show and this time, the veterans are from the Iraq war, but they’ve still escaped a maximum security prison and are on the run in the LA underground. We have to wonder though: with all the high tech gear available to the US army right now, including GPS trackers and pinpoint satellite surveillance, are they still going to be that incompetent that they can’t catch the A Team?

12. Shutter Island. Speaking of going back in time, this Martin Scorsese film features Leonardo DiCaprio as a grown up who is investigating the disappearance of a murderer from a psychiatric institution. She manages to escape to Shutter Island and he tracks her and brings her back. The movie takes place in 1954 so expect some nice period pieces to be included.

11. Robin Hood. This one may be a long shot, but we like Russell Crowe as the bandit who steals from the rich and gives to the poor. Directed by Ridley Scott, this is one in a series of film adaptations of the famous medieval bandit, meaning the genre could be saturated. Then again, perhaps it’s time we shed the image of Robin Hood Men in Tights.

10. Eclipse. Finally something a little more recent for our list of the 20 most anticipated movies of 2010. This is the second installment in the Twilight series and should draw teenage crowds to see the adventures of the brash vampire. This one will focus on the war between the vampires and the werewolves with Bella caught in the cross fire.

9. The Green Hornet. Yet another Marvel superhero adaptation, Rotten Tomatoes actually listed this one at number 9 as well. Britt Read and Kato will be brought to life by Seth Rogen and Jay Chou. The duo fight crime at night while Britt is a newspaper publisher during the day. The fact is that super heroes are still popular, especially when there’s a recession on since people are looking for heroes, so expect this one to be big.

8. Alice in Wonderland. After talking about a superhero, let’s talk about another fairy tale. Alice and the Mad Hatter are being brought to life by Tim Burton. This one seems like a sure hit when you consider the combination of a still beloved fairy tale and the legend of Burton. However, just in case you’re thinking this will be a rehash of the events of the Lewis Carol book, this is rumored to be more of a sequel to the book (though not based on Carol’s own sequel, Through the Looking Glass).

7. The Expendables. Sylvester Stallone is making another comeback, this time leading a group of the best and brightest to take out a South American dictator who is wreaking havoc on the world. He’s joined by other old time favorites, including Bruce Willis, Jet Li and the governator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

6. Toy Story 3. The original movies were huge hits and there’s no reason to expect this one will be anything less. The movie takes place 10 years after the original story when the toys have been tossed out like yesterday’s leftovers. Their owner has decided to go to college and they are now in search of a new home.

5. Clash of the Titans. Another remake of a 1980s classic, this film features an international cast led Liam Neeson, who plays Zeus, king of the gods. The story revolves around the struggle between the gods and man for the right to rule the earth.

4. Inception. This is a pseudo Batman sequel, featuring some of the villains from the classic series. The story revolves around a CEO, played by Leonardo DiCaprio who enters and dream world where his thoughts can be read by the bad guys and used against him and the world.

3. The Last Airbender. This one is based on an animated Nickelodeon series which has moved to live action. The four elements will be fighting to the death when the Fire Nation decides to attack everyone else. Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, this film, also called Avatar, features a largely unknown cast, but is still expected to show strong results in 2010.

2. Iron Man 2. It’s really a toss up as to which of our last two 20 most anticipated movies of 2010 should get the coveted number one spot and as much as we loved the original Iron Man, we felt that Harry Potter might still edge the sequel. Still, Robert Downey Jr. is expected to produce a solid performance in Iron Man 2 and this movie is definitely one of the most talked about anywhere.

1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I. By far the darkest of the Harry Potter books, and the longest as well, this one was split into two parts for the movie adaptation. We don’t need to tell you what it’s about since even if you haven’t read the book, you’ll know that Harry and Voldemort finally have it out in this final installment of the series. Of course, technically since this is just part I, you’ll still have more to look forward to in the final, final installment.
